Pencil works inside your conversations and your calendar, which is about as personal as software gets. This page explains exactly what Pencil collects, why, and the promises that come with it. Pencil is operated by Cooper Schoenthaler in the United States.
What Pencil collects
Your phone number and name. That is how your account works and how Pencil knows who is texting.
Messages in chats that include Pencil. Pencil reads and keeps the messages in conversations it is part of, because that is where the scheduling happens. It has no access to any conversation it is not in.
Calendar data. When you connect Google Calendar, Pencil reads your availability and the events needed to schedule, and writes the events it books for you.
People and preferences. Details you share so scheduling gets easier: names, emails, time zones, favorite spots, rules like never before 10am.
Subscription status. Payments are handled by Stripe. Pencil never sees or stores your card number.
What Pencil does with it
One thing: scheduling. Your data is used to find times, book events, remember your people and preferences, and run the service. There are no ads, and your data is never sold or shared for marketing. Ever.
The group chat promise
In group chats, Pencil only ever shares when you are free, never what you are doing, who with, or where. Private notes and calendar details stay private by design: guest and group conversations structurally cannot load them. And what Pencil learns in one chat never surfaces in another.
Services Pencil relies on
Pencil runs on a small set of services, each getting only what it needs to do its job:
Anthropic (Claude) powers the AI. Conversation context is processed to generate Pencil's replies.
Sendblue delivers and receives the iMessages.
Composio connects your Google Calendar securely. Your Google credentials are never stored by Pencil.
Stripe handles payments and stores your card details.
Keeping and deleting your data
Pencil keeps your data while your account is active so it can keep remembering your people and preferences. Text Pencil "stop messaging me" and it stops. To delete your account and data, email [email protected] and it will be done promptly and confirmed to you.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored on infrastructure we control. Calendar access is scoped to what scheduling needs, and every piece of your data is isolated to your account.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date, and significant changes will be announced directly. Questions about your data: [email protected].
